Some musicians are walking stereotypes; others crush them with every step they take. Colt Ford, one of the headlining artists at the 2010 WYCD Downtown Hoedown, is one of the latter. At first glance, he looks like any 300 lb good ol’ boy from Georgia — and he is — until he walks on stage. It’s a safe bet that most people who saw his set weren’t familiar with him then, and it’s a safe bet that they’ll never forget him now.
Combining a style as country as Hank Williams, Jr. and Waylon Jennings with hip-hop and soul to match, it’s no wonder Ford is so well-received in Motown. The crowd, as diverse as his own style, just couldn’t get enough of him — kinda like his new hit song, “Chicken & Biscuits.”
